December 2011, the government has approved a new legal framework which allows individual users to install photovoltaic solar panels on their rooftops, using the electricity produced by the system directly for their own use.

Until now, individual owners could sell the energy produced to the grid. Now, under this new legal framework, individual owners can use the energy produced in their own home and company and, if they have an excess production, they can sell it back to the grid. In return, they can consume without cost and in the following 12 months, the amount of electricity returned to the grid as excess production.
